sensitive + thriving NYC
Self education about the trait of sensory sensitivity is CRITICAL, and community is also CRITICAL. Classes and groups provide both. Many HSPs feel like they need to “fix” themselves and so they are drawn to one-on-one services because they think their issues are just personal to them. They feel ashamed even thinking about sharing themselves in a group. The very reason that many sensitive people shy away from groups is the reason that being in one will support them. It allows you to see that you are not crazy, weird, a freak, the most sensitive HSP ever, un-fixable, etc. You get to learn about your self, the same way you can learn math or painting. It lets you stop the constipation of “is this the right or wrong way to feel, think, act, be” and move forward with being, acting, and experiencing. You create a vacuum all by your self.
When you’re just starting out learning about high sensitivity, you don’t know what you don’t know. So groups give you the meat for transforming. They give you the context. Rather than just saying “this sucks and I don’t know why” you get a group of people and a guide (ME!) all experiencing a similar thing who can delineate why it sucks and what you can do about it. They name the beast that you may not know how to.
See the calendar below and to the side to join us for our next meetup!
I also post events that other NYC HSPs are hosting for HSPs. If you have one, join us and tell me about it so that I can share it on there.
You can also search for highly sensitive person groups that meet in your area at www.meetup.com.
